Austin -- The Century Council, a Washington, D.C.
based advocacy group, was in Austin to present State
Representative Aaron Pena with an award for his fight
against drunk-driving and underage drinking. The Council
promotes responsible decision-making regarding drinking
or non-drinking of beverage alcohol and discourages
all forms of irresponsible consumption through education,
communications, research, law enforcement, and other
programs.
"Drunk-driving and underage drinking are a huge
problem not only in the Rio Grande Valley but in the
entire state of Texas," said Pena. "I was
proud to have helped in getting legislation passed
that enhanced penalties for repeat drunk drivers."
Pena was honored with The Century Council’s
State Legislative Award for his role in introducing
and supporting effective drunk driving and underage
drinking legislation.
